XP Home Log in problems

After my wife logs off her account, the computer screen goes block. I can't get the black screen to go away. I have to hard reboot my computer. Also when my wife logs off her account, it's slow logging off. I have XP Home SP2. Anyone know a fix for this?

Goes black? Well, there could be many reasons, but let's try to narrow it down first. When she tries to log off and the screen is black, laptop or desktop.. are the lights (on the laptop or tower) still blinking as if it is still trying to close some apps or programs down? or completely not blinking at all?

Other than that, do you have a registry cleaner and anti-virus/spyware tools? Have you tried running them?

It's a desktop. The thing is still running when she logs off. The screen will go black afterwards. The computer fully logs off her account but the creen goes black.

I have Kaspersky 6 AV, Spyware Terminator and I have JV16 tools as my reg cleanerer. I run my anti spyware (AS) and my Kaspersky(KAV) every week. I clean my registry once ever few weeks. I also used HiJackThis (HJT) and no spyware was there. I'm 100% sure it's not a virus, trojan or spyware.

Anything else it can be?

You could have damaged or missing system files or drivers causing this. You may have to delete that account entirely to create a new one. The first idea on this is to run the system file checker if you have the Windows installation disk onhand. To start that simply type "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt and hit the enter key. This repair or replace any damaged or missing essential files. If the cd drive light gets busy you'll know where the problem was.

I done that before I came here. There was no problem. I did some research an I guess this happens on some computers. I installed MS Hive cleaner and it works great now.
