I want to install WinXP on my laptop, first I used a floppy startup disk to boot to MSDOS then I insert the XP cd on cdrom and type on E:\winnt after that it instals and copies files to my drive but the problem is it takes too long to copy all the files it took me like 2hrs to finish, is there an easy way to winxp installation?

normally you make sure bios boots from cdrom before harddrive, and then you start the installation directly by booting from the cd

Do you have an upgrade or full install disk? When you boot from a full install version the installer will start up automatically. When booting with a set of startup floppies the smartdrv.exe has to be included on the first one. Y ou simply type smartdrv.exe at the prompt and press enter to get that going. The link here will provide the step by step method to see it done that way if you can't boot from the optical drive. http://woman-in-vogue.net/computers/operating_systems/xp_install.htm

For downloading the files needed for making up the setup floppies use one of the links seen at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q310994
