im keep getting the problem when im try to install XP on my computer lately, as im running windows setup, after a quick format it starts to copy files, when it copies the files i keep getting this error "setup cannot copy the file:......." if you are installing from a cd, make sure the windows xp cd is in the cdrom drive. the thing is each time i format and restart setup again the error files is different which means its not the disc problem because i try another disc same problem. I also change hdd, and i have 2 cdrom, which means its not any of these but what is the problem? i used to be able to install easily with this or other computers.

I had this same problem and the culprit ended up being RAM. After many hours of mucking around, I pulled one of the sticks of RAM out and viola, flawless installation.

Of course, your results may very.

Try doing a full formatting instead of the quick formatting during installation. Sometimes that does the trick - but unfortunately not as often as one would want.

I had a problem simiar to this only it wasn't ram and it was formmatting options. The problem was caused cause I overclocked my computer. Do you over clock if so set all the options back to what they were. Probably not the issue, but thats all I can think of other than what the other two said.
