Hi guys,

Noobie here with an easy question hopefully. I am consdeiring buying my friend's Dell XPS M140 that's pretty loaded. The only problem is it has XP Media Center and I NEED XP Pro for network access at work. Can I switch it to XP Pro and what is the best way to do that? Thanks!

If you want to switch to Pro, you need to buy an XP Pro CD for around $140. But you can easily install it.

Are you SURE you need XP pro for work? The reason I ask is because Media Center has a lot of the same features as XP Pro. Media Center is built around the XP Professional core. Just a thought...

...Without a few of the networking capabilities. For instance, with MCE 2005 you are unable to join a domain. However, you can still gain access to shared domain resources

Yeah....I'm a Realtor with a very large firm. In order to even add youto the network they look at your machine to see whether it has XP Pro. Corporate policy

Acutally I have the CD ;) I'm just not sure how I would go about installing it with XP Media already on the computer???

You load it into the CD/DVD Drive, restart the computer, and it will prompt you if you want to run from the CD, then you can install it over the existing OS.
