Hello all, Im having some real problems with XP for no reason it stopped booting up, it will get almost all the way then it just stops just before a full boot into XP, I decided to do a re install got my drivers loaded and it was booting up fine then started useing the internet then the problem came back.

Ive checked the hard drive and its fine, I did install some apps of the net, ones I have been useing before with no problems.

It will boot fine in safe mode, please if anyone can give me some advice im really stuck most off what I have read on this mainly points to the hard drive being broke, I thought maybe it could be the internal battery but then I assume it will not boot in safe mode too but it does.

hoping someone can help.

cheers, jon

It sounds like Windows isn't quite installing correctly, or that your HDD is about to die, one or the other. I would try one more fresh install before replacing the HDD...

You could try the system file checker as a last chance before redoing everything over as DCIScouts has pointed out. With the installation disk in the drive where it will end up either way type in "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt right off of the Start menu and press enter. That will repair and replace any basic files not fully installed or working as well replace anything found missing. After that it's delete the current for another try.

The age of a drive itself generally won't matter since you can find some old 20mb drives still in working condition. Brand new drives can see problems on those less likely but not completely unlikely occasions. The real problem to examine here is why it boots right up in safe mode and runs without problem yet stalls on a normal boot? That points at a software not hardware problem.

The key phrase seen here is: " I did install some apps of the net, ones I have been useing before with no problems."! Now try removing them and if you still have problems try dumping some of the drivers you installed. A bad install of "something?" is the problem to look at.
