XP or Linux? Want to emulate OS X and install multiple browsers & versions

I just got into web-design and want to set up a workstation. I have a new laptop I use for just about everything, and an old laptop (won't work, motherboard fried), and an old working desktop with XP.

I want to set up the broken laptop as an external display for the desktop - but that's another story.

My question is - if I want to use the old desktop PC to view my websites in multiple browsers AND multiple versions AND on multiple operating systems - what do you guys suggest?

I figured I could install Linux, with an OS X emulator or whatever (don't know much about this kind of stuff). From there, how would I install multiple versions of a single browser?

Typically your dev box and your dev server should be the same as your live server. That is just my opinion. Most every webhosting company out there runs some sort of Linux, and/or Unix. I would just load Linux on your dev box and be done with it. If you need to see how your site looks you can check out http://browsershots.org/?url
