XP or Vista

Hi, Sorry if this seems a stupid question but i'm relatively new to computers. I own a laptop with XP Pro & BT wireless broadband. I'm thinking of having a desktop pc made for me, can you tell me if I have Vista installed on the desktop would that cause any differculty in accessing the internet on both pc's & downloading files etc from one pc to the other?
Or would the best idea be to have XP on both?
Thanks

in theory you shouldn't have any problems with respect to transfering files or downloading stuff from the internet. the main issue will come in when you are attempting to do various things with vista you will get annoying dialog boxes where vista askes permission to do things because it doesn't want to do them the first time you tell it to do something. in addition the overall interface and location of various elements is different so if you're already familiar with xp i'd go with that just so it's something you know how to use.

After reading over alot of threads that relate to the same thing, Ill give this simple answer. I have vista ultimate on my desktop and xp on my laptop, and everything goes fine....its really just personal preferance in my opinion.
