XP Pro Boot Complications

Hi every1, new to the forum. Thanks in advance for any input. I built a machine about 15 months ago and everything has been running fine for the most part. However, lately I have noticed that when booting up, immediately when the login screen for xp shows up, the computer reboots. Sometimes, following the reboot, I get a message from windows that the computer did not shut down properly, sometimes not. It just happened 10 min ago again so it is pretty recent. Any suggestions?

Try running check disk when you boot, and try also booting up in safe mode, which should work, and hopefully allow you to have a look around your computer for anything that looks queer. If not my last resort would be to reformat the computer.

I am planning on reformatting within the next month anyways, just need to back up the master HD. I am thinking it is my PSU because last night the same thing happened again, only this time I was around to witness the whole thing. It seems to restart when attmepting to read a disk in one of my optical drives. So I took both disks out and now it is running fine. Maybe the psu is getting too stressed trying to run not enough power over the 12V rail.

Yea, so I just checked the psu and I am laughing that I didnt earlier. 12V@18A is what the rail is rated for. So most likely I need to buy a new psu? Any suggestions for a decent psu that would alleviate the situation?
