XP Pro - Counter I.D.'s / Sort Order

Hello,
I recently installed Iolo's System Mechanic 6 and receive a error "Unable to locate the processor performance object" when trying to use the Memory Mechanic. And according to Iolo's support site:
http://www.iolo.com/customercare/kbarticle.aspx?id=KBA-01185

"The issue has been found to be caused by performance objects being disabled in the system registry either by other downloaded accelerator applications or by users being mislead into believing that disabling certain counter objects will reclaim system performance."

This is a self built system to which I've never (intentionally) disabled any Counters or messed with the Sort Order, nor installed any optimization programs (other than System Mechanic 6). Are Sort Order / Counter I.D.'s (specifically Perfproc, PerfOS, Perfdisk, and PerfNet) usually disabled by default? And if so why, and what would be the likely result of enabling them? Evidently Microsoft has a tool to enable them available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/exctrlst-o.asp

Turns out that tool is for Server 2003?

The rest of System Mechanic 6 has worked fine, with no ill results so far, and the use of Memory Mechanic is not essential to me. If I can safely make changes and get it to work, great, but it's not worth causing crashes, or worse. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Anyone have any info, or links to info or tools for enabling these Counter I.D.'s ??????

My Rig:
Intel P4 660 on Intel D945PVS MOBO
