XP Pro & Remote Desktop

Hi everyone,

I have Windows XP Professional full edition. I am looking to utilize the remote desktop login, as I use this option for work and it is just great.

My question is: How can I utilize this feature without a static IP address? Or what are my options besides purchasing my own static address?

WHAT in the world is that? They sell ip's NOW. That's robbery. If you have dinamic addresing just type in RUN: CMD press anter, type ipconfig /all press enter again, and there you have your ip use that.

Ummm......it is not unique. It changes frequently several times per day, I believe. That will also bring up my router IP, but that is not what I am looking for.

you can use no-ip
http://www.no-ip.com/

it allows you to create a domain and update it to your ip, so you can access your computer from the domain instead of using the ip...

all you do is create an account, add a host/domain and download the update client...
what it will do is resolve the domain to your current ip, and then the update client will update your ip every time it changes.

also you mentioned a router... so you will have to forward the RDC port which i think is 3389...

Is using no-ip completely secure? I would think that a free site would be itching for personal info, but maybe not.

Also, can you provide a URL or a short description on port forwarding this specific one?

yes it is secure.... i've been using it to run a webserver and no problems, i think they only ask you for your name and that's it....

and for the port forwarding it varies depending on which type of router you have but go here and look for your type of router...
