Gee the last time I mixed 80pin with 80wire/40pin ide cables... The current installation of Windows on the drive is still tied to the old system but not stopping the installer. It sounds like just as The_Other_One has stated about having the drive's jumper set wrong. If the drive is on the end make sure you try it set to master(MA). If on the middle connector slave(SL). If this is an optical drive make sure you keep it on the secondary ide cable.

If the jumpers look good, try another IDE cable. Either put it on one of the other cable in the system or replace the IDE cable you have hooked up to the new drive. Both are possibilities of problems.

The drive is a Pioneer DVR-A07 computer sees it as dvr-107d. it is an optical drive, I have tried MA,SL,CS used 40, 80, pin cables on primary, secondary, it worked ok set on master in the computer that it was previously in.
I think it must be something in xp.

Not tryin to be a smart a@@ but have you pluged in the power plug, you would not believe how many people have brought me there computer for the same reason! And there is no such thing as a 80 pin IDE cable. There is a 40 and 80 wire cable but they both have 40 pins.

great help

StrangleHold: you are very helpfully? Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cables are only 40 pin makes sense since it is a 40 pin socket! I wont even comment on the power plug statement.
