Xp problem

A friends computer was taking around 15 minutes to load xp and about the same to start any programs. I offered to format the harddrive for her and re-install xp.

i formatted the drive, but when i came to install xp it took around 8HOURS and i also got a message of inf failure during the installation of xp and it still takes a long while to load windows.

What could the problem be, would it be the harddrive, or another component?

it can be the hard drive failing, as for the inf this is a problem with the CD.
wow did you actually wait 8 hours to install XP ?..damn

How old is the system? Sometimes bad ram will cause problems. Also look at any hardwares like a faulty printer or other device plugged in. A defective addon will often stall a system. On an old system the battery going on the board or failing bios or one needing to be updated will be a problem.
