I have a copy of XP that is installed on a old computer that I don't use anymore, and would like to install on a newer one. I have the CD and Key, my question is. Do I have to uninstall the partition on the old one? And can i install it on the new one without having to call Microsoft for a new key?

Yeah if its a retail you can, you just cant have it activated on 2 at the same time. Depends on how many times you have activated it in the past, you might have to call them and say its only on one machine to get a activation code.

Like I said you just cant have it activated on more than one at the same time.

Well as far as uninstalling it on the other computer, technically your suppost to. But if you dont, never go to microsoft update or it could screw up the activation on the other one. But by the rules your suppost to.

Ok, just to clear things up. I don't need to get a new key when its uninstalled right? Thank a lot for the help though, this questions been bothering me for a couple days and couldn't find any answers.

Right you use the same key. If it never been activated but once on the old computer you will probable not have to call them. Most of the retails I have its about after the 3 or 4 activation.

Turns out, I do need a new key. Can someone show me the right page with the number to call for a new product key? I cant find it.

You know the key is what you type in when installing. If it didnt activate there should have been a number to call.

Well the thing is, my dad says he lost the hard drive he had XP installed on.... So I've just been searching Google and Microsoft for a number, and cant find it anywhere.
