Omega's correct. If you bought it from a shop or an individual vendor, including eBay, report them to Microsoft. If you obtained it any other way, then buy a legit version, and you'll be able to install all the service packs you want.

I not quite sure if the software it is ligit or not, the computer used to be owened by my cousin so i will ask him.

I'm not getting the Pop up messages, it just tells me that i need XP updating with SP2.

I will try and download the link.

Thanks

Some software need SP2 installed.

Anyway i know a way you can make your computer think it has SP2:

1. Open Regedit [Start/Run/regedit]

2. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\"

3. Create a new DWORD value "CSDVersion"

4. Set the data of CSDVersion to "0x100" to fake SP1, or "0x200" to fake SP2.
[Enter all values without "Quote Marks"]

NOTE: EDITING THE REGISTERY IS VERY DANGEROUS, ONLY DO IT IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, DOING THIS PROCEDURE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I would follow magicman's advice to use the validation tool at the MS link in order to grab all of the updates/security fixes. SP2 also has fixes for things like USB 2.0 as well as the short wait for SP3 that will be coming along. Many programs require what is in SP2 where fooling the registry only stops the updates are ready pop up messages.
