XP Service Pack 3?

PCWorld magazine already has an article on the new service pack now available in beta form seen at http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,122871-page,1/article.html

However you would have to join another forum in order to download that at this time. http://www.thehotfix.net/sp3_2.html Will the full version ever be released? Not until 2008 as seen in the article at http://news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/20061024/tc_pcworld/127645

I am admiring you.

U seem to know everything on pc.

Haven't you install the SP3,

and don't it make your OS unstable?

Anything in beta form can be a real nuisance at times. Everybody expects to do the same amount of things as you would on a finished version. Nope! A beta is a developers shell of something to give you an idea. Some complained that the Vista betas wouldn't run their games. Only beta drivers are available.

The beta versions of IE 7 and FireFox 2.0 saw problems here when first released. Those were tried here and quickly reverted to IE 6 and FF 1.5 when problems were seen with those. Now both finished versions are running with ease. SP3 should be tried on a spare not primary installation to see how it performs. Since it will include IE 7 you would only need the other security fixes and download IE 7 separately.

SP3 should have been finished already since IE 7 is already out in the final version. This is one thing people have wondered about for some time whether there would be another service pack available for XP. With support dropped on SP1 I guess MS had to "get it in gear" so to speak. When I find SP3 in the finished version then I would put on the update. I'm still waiting on the finished not beta version of WMP 11. I think the finished version is ready for download at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx

"We have not confirmed plans for a Service Pack 3 for Windows XP yet," said Michael Burk, product manager for Windows Vista. "At this point, the Windows servicing team is reviewing the feedback on Windows XP SP2 and is still evaluating timing and alternatives for the next Windows XP servicing release."
They're still reviewing SP2 feedback two years after its release?! How many people are on the review team, two? Jeez!

Initially SP2 was available on cd to order directly from...? that review team apparently. :P After a period of time you could download the entire 266mb SP2 from 3rd party sites and save it to a folder for later installation. This time they will be way off schedule with the release of SP3 if? it ever does come out. SP1 came out after the first year of XP in late 2002. 1+1=2 Two years later SP2 hatches out. And guess what? What is 2002+2? Well SP1 came out "1" year later in 2002. double that with 2x"1"+2002=2004. Now multiply the 2x"2" + 2004=2008? If SP4 comes out for XP it would be in...? 2x"4" +2008=2016? ! No one will be running XP then! (they did it again! :P )
