XP SP2 Install Problem

I Upgraded to SP2 ( XP was working great before ) , and after the Upgrade when the comp restarts Windows screen seems to be refreshing all the time , I am not sure what's happening .

The system is :

AMD Athlon 1.0 Gig CPU
128 DDR PC2100 RAM
40 Gig HDD

Ok I am thinking here could it be that My monitor refresh rate has changed or could it be the 128 MB RAM should I go up to 256 DDR RAM

sp2 takes a lot more ram to run and if you only have 128 thats not going to cut it really its going to be extreemly slow and have lots of issues i would reccommend getting the max amount you can get for your pc it will work wonders for you man

^^^ Thank You I will put in a 256 Stick when I get home , but do you think that the SP2 Upgrade changed my Refresh Rate ?

Ok here it is I put in a stick of 256 DDR with the 128 and rebooted and still it's happening , If I actually get a window open it's ok but everything behind it keeps refreshing , when I check Task Manager the System Idle Process is going up and down , also explorer.exe is commimg and going with high Mem Usage.

Any help there ?

have you also scanned for malware? my guess it maybe you have some of it running in the background try running ccleaner adaware and spybot and also run a virus scan maybe these things are goinng on and also go into your display properties and check the monitor settings for things like the refresh rate and see if its possibly screwed up...

The thing is that I cant get into my Display settings and it still happens in Safe Mode.

I scaned the drive using AVG and Ad Aware and they havent found anything.

try ccleaner its amazing i used it after using internet clean up adaware spybot and scanning with nortons and it still found over 2gigs of stuff to take off of my hdd after you run that to a scan with hijak and let me know the results of what it says...

SP2 unfortunately is very weird when installing. Many times, if your computer is infected with Malware and you try to install SP2, you encounter many problems, and in some cases requires a fresh copy of Windows to be installed. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but you should have someone take a look at your HijackThis log.

If you wish to have your computer checked for malware could please download HiJackThis and post a logfile. To do that, please follow these steps:
  1. Download HiJackThis.zip
  2. Unzip it to a permanent directory. This will keep HJT and its backups in a common place. A very good place to put it is C:\HJT
  3. Open HiJackThis.exe and select the option to "Do a system scan and save a logfile"
  4. A notepad window will popup with all the information I need. Please paste its contents in a reply to this thread.
Note: do not attempt to "Fix" anything, as we need to see the entire log.
Also if you have any Startup items unchecked in Msconfig, check those items, reboot, then post a fresh log. HijackThis can not "see" disabled items in Startup.

Ok here it is
