XP SP3 concern

I have a concern about letting my Automatic Updater in Win. XP update me to SP3.

The last time I tried to update to SP3 manually, I got this error, as in one of my earlier posts:http://www.computerforum.com/126985-xp-sp3.html#post1038702 So I downgraded back to SP2 and everything seemed to work fine after that.

Now do you think I'll get the same error if I let auto update take care of it or am I SOL?

I wish I had good news for you but I am in the same position albeit a different error and being asked to download SP3 by Auto Updates.

The last time I did it, it installed fine but refused everytime to install any other update after that. But windows kept asking me, and I said "yes" but it always threw up an error. I went back to SP2.

I will try it again but not yet. :)
 
Last night, I updated to SP3 on my Sony Vaio. After the install, my computer refused to boot; couldn't even get it to boot into safe mode. Finally removed SP3 via the recovery console, and it's working fine. :mad:

I didn't expect to have any problems, but this is a Sony, so there could be some proprietary stuff disagreeing with the changes. I'm gonna check out the Sony Support site and see if there's any known issues/fixes.
