XP Start-up in a loop

Hi,
My computer has just started to go haywire...when I turn it on it starts to load as usual but then goes into a loop after it gives a menu saying windows is not loading. it offers me the choice of loading in three safe modes, loading in last known config or starting windows normally. None of these works and just goes back through the loop. I have had no warning messages previous nor insatlled any new hardware. I dont have the XP disk to repair install. Can any body offer any advice? I tried unpluggin my cd-rom and dvd writer to eliminate tham but then got the message "disk boot Failure" Its driving me insane.
 
Check all your connections.
It looks like you HD is failing.
I think you can download some tools (usually on the HD manufacturer web site) to check if the HD is faulty or not.
 
Thanks for your quick replies. I have just tried my hard drive in a mates computer and his computer ceased to function!!! I have replaced his hard drive and contacted my hard ware maker in the hope that they can supply an answer. The problem will be if I have to reboot windows as i have no disk. Cheers again and if you can supply any other ideas or anything else to supply.
