XP start up music...

It is just a .wav file. It can be changed by going to the sounds section of Control Panel. Look for Start Windows. Browse for another sound.

if you have a music editing program (i use acid pro), you can cut your favorite part out of a song and use it as your startup and shutdown sounds.

I simply "search around" for various edits from sound tracks or effects for the various wav files to assign to the functions used. If a program crashes there's a loud "SCCRREEECH!" or "Kaaa BOOM" or maybe an airwrench. I would think if you tried different ones at different times for different functions you wouldn't get "BORED" too fast! :P

Check out some of the links found on the search here. That should keep you busy for awhile. http://infospace.abcnews.com/_1_SHWT6B04O6LW5I__info.abcnws.toolbar/search/web/free+wav+files

Gee and all this time I had the A Team opening and Deep Space nine close. As the saying went "I love it when a plan comes together!". :P I still haven't found that wav file however.

You can run a search for themes for your favorite tv shows and every other sound to customize Windows. And since the format is the same for wav files you can take wavs off of an old 98 or NT system and use those on XP. To give you an example of the different catagories for celebrity, movies, tv show, animals, and other sounds just look over these links. Some of these can really "Go ahead... make my(your) day".

You have to keep looking for sites like that. Make sure you run a good adware cleaner afterwards. Some of those often have a few other "free things" you don't need or want! :P Once you have a good collection back them up on a cd-r. If something happens to any of them you can always copy them back to the drive.

not really related but kinda.........

the ringer on my cellphone does the tarzan thing when my wife calls. she hates it.

I have one set up where any mail sets off "you have no mail just a lot of crap" when new mail comes in outllook express. I don't hear that with a new spam filter I've been trying out any longer since the junk now goes to either a spam or unsure folder while real mail from valid contacts. You should hear the one for blocked popup ads. Too bad the spammers couldn't! :P
