Hi

I want to completley get rid of XP off my laptop and install Vista on it. I dont want to install it over XP.

Whats the best way to do this?

Many thanks

OK I think I'll wait, how do you go about completely formatting the hard drive
, my laptop had all the software pre-installed

Or if your laptop has on board recovery then this can be usually be done by booting the laptop and pressing either F10 or F12. This will then load the recovery utility.

there are still bugs to work out like when you have it on a laptop and then suddenly it would lower your resolution and you can change it back until a restart.

Install Vista

If I Was You I Would Back Up Your Computer Before Installing Vista. This Is Incase U Dont Like Vista Or Your Computer Goes Dodgy.:d

Hi

Decided to use XP instead of Vista, there nothing I want to save on my laptop.
But when I got to format it from the disc i get so far then it says it cant find any hard drive please check your connections.
Does anyone know why this might be???

Windows can't find a hard drive in a laptop? That's a new one.

Can you still boot to windows with the computer?

Yep, still runs windows normally.
It says:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or set up program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press f3

Trying to boot from the cd

Guide

to start> Download vista and put it on a disk !! make sure it is bootable!!

1>download Delpart.exe from http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm then put it on a floppy disk.

2>put another floppy in and right click it in my computer then click format. At the bottom it will say something like format MS DOS startup disk choose that.

3>when it has formatted restart the computer with the MS DOS bootdisk on it

4>It should load MS DOS up

5>type delpart.exe

6> from there it will guide you how to format it
!!!!WARNING!!!
Partitioning will delete all contents like data and registry.

7> after it has partitioned take all the floppys out and restart the pc.

8> put the vista disk in and follow the steps from there.

:) :) :) :) :)
