Hey guys,

Im wondering if its possible to install windows Xp onto a 4gb thumb drive and use that as its bootable hard drive permandtly...then not needing the system to have a hard drive?

I know we can make a bootable thumb drive that you can install windows from...but i want if possible to use the thumb drive as the main hard drive that windows boots from.

Its for my HTPC...all i need is basic xp functions, and of course the software installed for my tv stick.

i wanted to avoid using the 120gb drive that came with the system because its noisy :D

Idk, that would be interesting to try. Have you tried plugging in the USB drive, and then see if the drive comes up when you install windows?

I don't think this is possible, but I'm not completely sure. I believe it really depends on the motherboard and how it emulates the flash drive and such in the bios.

Other options, though, would be to get one of these IDE/SATA to CF/SD converters and essentially make your own SSD. You could probably do so for around $50.
