I have an alianware laptop.. Model unknown. I have had the hardest time tryin to install an OS... I tried XP but it couldn't find the harddrive then would give me blue screen of death, I tried windows 7...but it couldn't find the hard drive...and your crazy if you think I'm gonna try that vista disk... I was beginning to think my harddrive was bad. I then just tried to bootnuke.. But bootnuke couldn't finish because the harddrive wasn't in the first SATA port... So I tried KillDisk and wiped the drive good. Still the OS' couldn't find the harddrive.. So I tried the never failing linux (ubuntu 9.10) it installed on the harddrive with the first try!!!!! I would call it quits from here but I cannot install any of my games! :( this is such a headache.... I wonder if I just need to get a new harddrive or if I did would I still get the same errors..... Please anyone. Advise. Thanks much.
 
Check your bios, make sure your sata controller is set to ATA, not AHCI. Otherwise the computer wont see the drive when trying to install Windows in some cases.
 
My laptop has not gotten much further (my own fault) I researched a bit on fixing my issue I downloaded a driver so the win7 disk could find the harddrive. That was successful but then I got stuck very soon after that with a message. It couldn't Create a new system partition or find an existing one... :( I went back to researching and came across a forum stating to change from ata to raid in the bios and a few steps to get through it... I did that... I think it was a big mistake. Now the system won't boot the windows disk. I reset to default setting on bios and used the killdisk one more time to wipe the drive.. That didn't make a difference. The computer just says "operating system not found" I'm so lost I haven't the slightest what to do. I can still access bios and the killdisk will run when in the tray. I can say after killdisk wiped the drive I put in the win7 disk and it began to load but never finished loading it just kinda froze... Please any suggestions are welcome.. And very much needed.
