I currently own a Toshiba Satellite L750D-14R with these specs:

The laptop its self was around £270 (I think, got it for christmas) and it seems to do what I want and play a a fair few games. Was it worth it?

Smiler specs to mine. Yeah, I play Minecraft on mine at high settings and it runs good. So it should run most games on low to med settings depending on the game.
