    C2D it is then. Thanks.

    Which processor for battery life?

I'm looking to get a new laptop, and battery life is most important. (It will only be doing internet browsing and coding, no gaming). I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron, which is £330 with a Celeron, or £400 with a C2D. Will a C2D T5550 (1.73GHz) use much more power than a Celeron 550 (2GHz)...

Where does XP keep driver exe's on the computer?

I installed the wrong driver for my XBOX pad (the official MS ones, instead of the better, XBCD ones). I uninstalled through device manager. But, every time I plug the controller in, the MS driver automatically installed itself, even when I'm disconnected from the network. The driver is...

Phenom performs worse than Core 2, clock per clock

I've actually taken the results for the Q6600 and 9700 (as they are both 2.4GHz) from the Tomshardware review, and put them in a easy to read spreadsheet. Linky. Makes it much easier to see how it performs, clock for clock, against a Core 2 Quad.

Phenom performs worse than Core 2, clock per clock

The phenom 9500 and 9600 are released tomorrow (9700 in December some time), but probably won't reach the r/etailers in large quantities for a few more weeks.

Phenom performs worse than Core 2, clock per clock

Clock for clock, the phenoms are about 15% worse than a Core 2 Quad. It's only better in memory intensive applications, where the onboard memory controller saves the day. Overclocking doesn't seem near as good as the Core 2's. But, the phenoms are going to be priced below the Core 2 Quads...

    Which Processor is Better?

Get the E4500. It beats the 5000 in pretty much every single benchmark here. On newegg, the price difference is only $20 (E4500 is $128). EDIT: Oh, you getting it prebuilt on Dell. I strongly suggest for you to build it yourself, but if you can't and have no friends that can, get the 5000...

    Which of these is better?

The Core 2 does more work per clock cycle - clock for clock, Core 2 is significantly better.

    2900XT or 8800GTS or wait?

You'd have to ask the r/etailers themselves when their next shipments are due to arrive.

    2900XT or 8800GTS or wait?

I would actually recommend you to get a 2900 pro. It is just an underclocked 2900xt. Simply oc the card. Flash the BIOS to an XT to improve stability at high oc's. Unless, of course, you can find an 8800GT that's actually in stock.

    Is I.T for girls too?

Whether you are the only person depends on the class size. My university group for comp science is 100-150, and about 5 of them are women. So, a very small proportion. So yes, the I.T. and computer engineering industry is open to both sexes.

What exactly is a Physx card and how does it work?

It's basically a very powerful math processor. Rather than the CPU calulate physics related work, it's shifted to the card. If you have an awful processor, then it's a good idea, but useless in the world of multicore CPU's. Games have to support it to use it. I'm sure there's a list of games...

What different between K10 AND Int Q?

What's different? The fact that they are different processors. K10 aka Barcelona aka Phenom and Opteron are due out in a month or so (they have begun shipping apparently). If you're looking for if the K10 is better than Intel Core 2 Quad cores, then you will have to wait until a decent and...

    Good Cooler for 8800GTS

I found the picture on google image search. And the picture is of a 8800GTX, but the same principle applies to all cards - cool everything that the stock cooler touched. I have no idea what heatsink you will need, as all high-end heatsinks use heatpipes, and it is highly likely these heatpipes...

Which part is too hot then?

Basically sounds like your PSU is overheating. Try removing the PSU from the case (but wires still plugged in). Turn computer on in a warm/hot room - try to recreate the conditions that cause your computer to crash. In theory, blowing a fan at the PSU intake should stop the freezing.

How would you destroy a HDD?

400C isn't even enough to destroy the platters, but might be enough to corrupt the date completely. The best way to avoid authorities getting hold of your hard drive is, rather than attempt to destroy it (which is hard unless you work in a steel refinery - data can still be retrieved from...

How would you destroy a HDD?

When you get metal to burn or melt with just a lighter, call me.

Whats the difference between AMD processors?

The difference is simply the frequency. Personally, I would sacrifice a 5000+ for a larger monitor. I love my 19" monitors.

How would you destroy a HDD?

I'd break the platters into smaller pieces, then drop them down the drain. As soon as I let go, they are lost forever.

    Dual monitors on 8800GTX

It won't screw up performance. The card simply has to show a picture on 2nd monitor. It doesn't have to do any rendering on it.
