Tips on resurrecting an ancient PC

I have two newer stationaries and one laptop. I don't expect this one to actually be any use to me. :p But if it works I can give it to my nephew, because his current computer is terrible. It did seems to spin up nicely, and I think I heard some hard drive activity. But either the graphics card...

Tips on resurrecting an ancient PC

Hi hi. First off, I made a thread about my nephew's machine a while back, and if anyone remembers and wonders; It was the monitor. If your family tells you "that specific part is in great shape", assume they don't know what they're talking about. Tip of the day. :good: Now to my new and...

Recently built PC doesn't load windows

I might be able to test the graphics card in another computer. But it depends a whole lot on what motherboard that computer actually has. It's old and I don't know if it has PCI-e.. :p Might be able to try it in a decent computer later this week though.

Recently built PC doesn't load windows

Room temperature or around there I guess. Not really checked that to be honest.

Recently built PC doesn't load windows

Well by cold I mean it has been shut off for an extended period of time. It's just a guess of mine, but since it works if I keep it on even after it fails to load Windows, my mind tells me it's getting warm and it works. I might be confusing how computers work with cars though. :p

Recently built PC doesn't load windows

But if it was a bad Windows, wouldn't it stop loading every time and not just when it's cold? Will try it anyway of course. :)

Recently built PC doesn't load windows

Hello. I recently built together a PC for my nephew with the following parts: Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G41 ATX CPU: Intel i3 3220 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1x4GB @1600 MHz HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB GPU: Radeon HD7550 (I think it was) Basically, when the computer is cold and has not been on...

    Please help

Wasn't even looking at it, I was making a general point about warranties as that seemed to be the reason the OP didn't want to build a PC.

    Please help

Even if you don't get a warranty on the whole computer, you still get a warranty on the individual parts, and it is usually a good one. Only problem is you have to troubleshoot it yourself. So build it, you won't regret it... unless your RAM breaks and you spend a week in misery. :(

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

Reason I ask is that after I removed the bad RAM I still had the loading time problems, internet problems and general feeling of bad. It must have been caused by something after all.

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

Can it have caused driver problems and such horrible errors?

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

Yeah, seems fine now, minus 4gb RAM. Now comes the crappy part where I have to download every single program and games on Steam I usually play. :/ Any suggestion for making sure it doesn't happen again?

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

I should probably stop panicking. Booting fine after reinstalling Windows, internet access after installing drivers. So far so good?

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

Still taking ages to load Windows with the other hard drive unplugged. But at least the port light on the router is lit now.. We'll see if I have internet in 3, 2, 1... nope. :p Will try to format and just do a clean install. No idea if it will work. :/

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

No, completely 100% sure it's a normal start. Aside from any problems I get. If I reinstall, and my games are all on the Seagate, can I get them to run easily? Yes, that's super important. :p I also notice the port light on my router is not lit when the PC is running. I doubt it's a problem...

Do they sometimes prevent from accessing the world wide internet?

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

I can't get online either.. :( What would disabling my storage drive do or prove? Not arguing against it, just want to know what I'm doing.

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

So, still an issue: Loading into Windows take very very long. Why?

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

3 tests, no error on one stick. Means I can still use the PC at least. :) Just hope I can get a replacement for just one. Warranty still there at least. And they usually send candy with their shipments. Will try to run it a bit tonight, see if anything breaks (if it does, it's the motherboard...

Computer BSODing, seems to be having issues

Will do. Doesn't matter which slots I use, right? The program said my RAM ran at 800 MHz by the way. Is that normal or another sign something is up?
