Looking for a new video card

Wasn't the 285 actually slower than the 280?

Sorta, they traded blows really. The 285 was a Tonga architecture but the 280 and 280x were Tahiti. The 285 only had 2GB VRAM also but was a good bit more power efficient than the 280. The 380X is also a Tonga architecture card and more power efficient than the 280X but about even performance.

The 370 is a significant downgrade from the 7970

Sometimes I get lines randomly on screen. Usually closing whatever game/browser I currently have running with ALT+F4 will fix it but sometimes I have to restart my computer completely. Looks like this.

My driver also crashes randomly and it's been doing it more frequently. Not sure if this is because of the card or the driver. And today, I got a blue screen when the driver couldn't recover.

Started basically when I got my 7970 after my 6970. It happened once in a while, but now it's starting to happen more frequently. About once or twice a week. I also formatted my PC recently (in December) and installed the latest drivers at that time and it still happens. I'm not at home so I can't check but I'm pretty sure they are up-to-date.

This sounds eerily like the problems I had... Your card also could just be dying and totally different from what happened to mine. Still seems really similar though, so makes me wonder.

Give a read through my thread from my previous post when you get the chance and see if any of that sounds similar.

I was able to make my 7970 stay relatively stable and problem free by downclocking it a little bit. What is the card manufacturer and what clock speed does it run at? You can use GPU-Z to check if you don't know how to.

Depending on your situation might be able to get AMD to throw you a bone like they did me, but they're slow to work with and I don't know if you'd get as lucky. I first opened a ticket with them at the end of December and I'm just now getting the replacement today.

All that said, the 390 is still a solid upgrade choice regardless of the 7970 being dead. My replacement is a 7990 that I'm selling on Ebay and turning around and buying a 390. :D

Ok so I'm getting the r9 390 but which one should I get? Is this one fine? Also wanted to make sure it would fit on my motherboard if a 7970 fits in it and if my PSU can handle it.

Your tx650 power supply will work fine for the 390. Can get whatever 390 you want. MSI is a good brand card.
