I have been wanting to do this for awhile now. With my health issues and there is alot of waiting for doctors and possibly a hospital stay in the future, I am wanting a laptop that will do everything. I just started playing games on the computer within the last few months. I have been playing Dirt Showdown and Battlefield Bad Company 2. This is just an idea of what I am playing. Those are not the only two.
I have had Toshiba's, Sony's and HP's in the past and have had good luck with all of them. I have been leaning towards a HP. Here is what I came up with from their site:
G7z-2200 series
Operating system Windows 8 64
Processor AMD Quad-Core A10-4600M Accelerated Processor (3.2GHz/2.3GHz, 4MB L2 Cache)
Graphics card 1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7670M Discrete-Class Graphics
Display 17.3-inch diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1600 x 900)
Memory 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard drive 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive
Primary battery 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
Primary optical drive Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
Personalization HP Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone
Networking 802.11b/g/n WLAN
I could care less about the webcam and mic...not way I cannot get it without it. This is at $884.99
I did look at the Toshiba. More expensive.

Blu-ray Disc™ player / burner [$150.00]
Standard lithium-ion battery (5300mAh)

$1119.99
It seems that the HP has more options to play with then the Sony or Toshiba. Not sure which way to go. Never done this before with a laptop.
