Better performance for Crysis

Hey all,

im currently playing Crysis...i love it!

the scenery looks so real.

Anyway my current settings are a mixture of Medium to Very high on some settings with 4x AA and it runs very smooth with no lag, however if i set all settings to High i get some lag.

Is this just hitting the max performance of my 8800GT or is my Processor the bottleneck and ram?

Would getting the Q6600 sort this out?

tks

the 8800GT can do all high, but like you i get lag if i set it to all high. thats probably because we have basically the same processor.

Hi mate,

so you think upgrading the processor will sort this out?

i dont think so. i doubt it. dont games mostly rely on the gpu?

yes the Gpu but surely the processors doing work aswell and if that cant keep up with the gfx card then maybe thats the problem?

im not sure on this:cool:

yeah, but unless your running it something like 8x or 16x there isnt much of a difference. and i wouldnt think its worth it with how much of a performance killer it is

eh, i highly doubt your e6300 is a bottleneck. infact, i dont think its a bottleneck even at stock speeds. q6600 is just over kill.

Nah, changing the processor will not affect your fps too much, unless it's like a high-end Wolfdale. Your CPU running at 2.7GHz should be perfectly fine. The GPU might be the bottleneck.

*cough* HD4870 *cough* :P

I have the q9450 and the 8800GT and can barely play w/o lag with high settings and 4x AA.

I would say if you want more you are crazy, but a new GPU is your best bang for the buck performance wise.

So my cpu isnt the bottleneck then :o ,i thought it might have been with it only having 2mb L2 Cache.

a 4870 is out of the question,i dont want a new gfx card as the 8800GT is great it plays all games ive thrown at it on max with no problems.

Its just crysis, then again they did say you would need something like 2 ultras in SLI to max it.

I think upgrading would not sort this out. I think the video card has its limit right there. I'm not setting very high on my card but still get the nice game :D

you have a 8800GT also?

im thinking about overclocking mine just to give it that extra boost.

the good thing about my card it runs very cool so i might be able to puch it quite far.

atm idle is 41c and it doesnt go over 55c on load ;)
