this may sound a dumb question but which is the better card, a Leadtek GeForce 8800 GT 512MB or a XFX GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB? i will get two and put them in sli. im quessing the 8800 would be best, but i thought i'd ask the pro's.
Thanks

The 8800 is definately better, have thought of the HD4850? it beats the 8800GT and it costs just a bit more.

I know that but i will only ever buy nvidia GPU's, just like i would only buy AMD CPU's and not intel. my server is intel but someone gave it to me and i didn't pay for it

The only problem of HD4850 is it really hot. It would better to wait for manufacture with to develope on heatsink or change the GPU heatsink.

Yeah the HD4850 runs hot but it's also the best card for around that price. Beats the 9800GTX on most benchmarks. But after all, it's all up to you.

I used to be an only-nVidia type of guy. But I changed once I bought the HD3870, wonderful thing. ;)

Just tell me one thing mac550, why don't you like ATi? Just trying to help man. :)

Out of the 8800GT and the 8600, Definitely go for the 8800GT!

Rammodkk has a good point... You should consider ATI as well as nVidia. Why would you want to spend more and get less?

Leave your options open, at least look at it...

I know you where and i thank you for your help, i was just saying.

my first computer i had, had a ati 32 Mb card and it lasted about a year, didnt know what overclocking was and the only games i played on it where keen 4 and doom 1 and 2, so i then got a nvidia card and i have never had one die on me (touch wood)

Plus someone i used to know had an ati card in has second computer and he said the if you changed 1 setting in the drivers it would poo it up and i dont want to click on something and blow a £100 gpu. At least with nvidia you cant poo it up by using the nvida control panel. and i like the demos that nvidia do for there gpu's and Adrianne, Luna, Nalu wont run on ati gpu. dont ati only have Ruby???
if anything i have put is wrong, please let me know coz you guys know more then me, and you cant know too much about computers :P

Thanks to all who replyed
