If I take a drive with an OS already on it and install it in a working tower (basically replace the HD) will it boot?

Most likely not. You will prob get a BSOD (blue screen of death). For the best results you could try un-installing all of the old drivers first and it might work.

In my experience, it will boot but you will have some driver issues to resolve. Sometimes its easier to start over from scratch.
