GTX 280. Tri-SLI?

I was watching some of maxishine's videos on Youtube, and I noticed he had 3 GTX 280's coming in, and was planning on running them in Tri-SLI. I also know he is getting the XFX 780i motherboard. Which, only has 2 - PCI Express x16 2.0 ports, and a regular PCI-Express x16. How is he going to run 3 when the card is PCI-Express x16 2.0, and there are only 2 of the slots for that type?
 
PCI 2.0 is backward compatible with x16. It will work. They probably do not even utilize the full bandwidth, so probably no performance difference.
