This is the final straw. 939 is shit, and I can't find anything worth the money, so I'm just going to go to AM2. I have about $260 in budget, and this is what I'm thinking right now --

I could upgrade the mobo and drop the CPU down to a 5400, or something or other. I need feedback on this set-up, and if you think you can get a better one going, please suggest it.

I don't need an integrated gpu. I don't really like Giga anyway. Anyone recommend an Asus perhaps?

it doesnt matter you can disable intergrated gfx,Gigabyte are alot better know company than that Biostar.

Biostar are cheap and their products wont be as good quality.

The problem with the Gigabyte is that it's 1066 RAM, and the 2(2 X 1GB)GB RAM is a little more expensive than the DDR2 800 RAM and pushes me past my limit.

You don't have to buy 1066 just because the write up says 1066. That's the max that board can handle. your 800 should work just fine. It's like saying that Windows XP 32 bit HAS to have 4 GB of RAM because that's the max. 2GB would work just fine

Now, here's my proof of that statement......... This page shows the TESTED compatible memory with that board. Make sure you select "Memory Support List".

You'll see that G Skill isn't there. That's probably because they never sent in a sample to Gigabyte to be tested. You'll see that DDR2 800 is all over that list though. Just because the G Skill doesn't appear on the list doesn't mean that it won't work. you would do better to get some of that memory from the list, but if i had to say i would say that the G Skill will PROBABLY work just fine.

G Skill works fine on Gigabytes. I,ve ordered nothing but G Skill for over a year on builds and so far not one stick DOA or incompatible. That GA MA770 DS3 is alot better board than the ones you been picking. The DDR2 800 will run fine. The DDR2 1066 will only run at 1066 if you have a Phenom, the Athlons memory controller only supports upto DDR 800. You can run DDR 1066, but it will just back clock it to 400/800mhz. Mine is DDR 1066.

Spend $40 more

 I would spend a little more on a motherboard. I know money is tight but a $49 mb is a little to cheep. Spend 70's to 80's for a little better quality. Remember you may use that computer for 5 years or so.
