I am using windows XP and i just lost the windows task bar. It is not hidden or been smaller in size. I also tried opening the task bar and start menu from the control pannel but it didnt open too. I even tried ctrl+esc, restarting pc and restarting explorer, but nothing seems to work. It just happened...Does anyone why did it happened and how can i get it back????

do you see the start button? if so, right-click, go to properties, and check for anything like "Auto Hide Taskbar"

You might don’t want someone to move you taskbar indivually or virus has lock it. So now you can unlock or lock it by your selves as below:

Go to start > run > type : regedit . Then go to this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

-Create New key name: TaskbarSizeMove
-Type: DWORD Value
-Value Data: 0

Note: Value data=0 mean lock it, Value Data=1 mean unlock it.

you can start any program using task manager... just do ctrl alt del, go to file -> new task (run). From there, you can type "regedit" and preform the above process. (you can even type "control panel"... then click "taskbar and start menu".... that is the same as the properties method above)

can you hit the

key?

and follow those instructions?

If it already exists, maybe it's value is not set to 0
Double-click it and set the value to 0

yes the value was not set to 0. i reset the value but it is still no there....i restarted the computer too. And i dont think it is because of Virus coz there is no way the computer gets virus, no internet no CD or flashdrive inserted........WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Try system restore? or maybe grab explorer.exe off of another computer... perhaps yours is corrupted somehow?

well...googling the problem comes up for explorer.exe always giving the problem, even in vista.
So, press ctrl+alt+del, select file->run and type explorer.exe
If the taskbar reappears, type msconfig and see if explorer.exe is unchecked. check it.
If this doesnt help, type rstrui.exe and restore a system restore point that was made before having the problem with the taskbar.

I dont think you can just grab it from another computer, as it's a vital process of the system
But now, that the taskbar is back, you dont need to do so.

But if you ever get to need it, you know you have terrible problems with your computer.
It would be heavy damaged computer that has all explorer.exe deleted ( since there are two of them ).

But, it's possible to just download the explorer.exe nowadays.
