Linux has changed the way I look at OS...

Ever since I installed ubuntu on my sony it's acted like a whole new computer. Runs faster, cooler, and works better than when I had XP on it. Think I've become Linux fan... :D

Here's a little extra story. On my laptop Vista needs 38% of the 2GB of memory (That's 778MB!) to IDLE. Ubuntu idles with only 200MB of memory, that's 10%!

Glad you like it, I do and ALL of my hardware works out of the box. Which is more than I can say for Windows.

ive always said if linux could run any Windows software/game i would switch tomorrow.

but until it does.....looks like im sticking with windws.

surely someone one day will make a compleatly new OS that we have not seen before, now Linux or windows but alot diffrent.

I've heard rumors that Google wants to create a new OS. Don't think it would happen, though. Microsoft has a firm grip on the OEMs, so it would probably be impossible for Google to make money with such a product.

then you would be running windows. There is a reason why those apps aren't easily ported over, it is because the developers are lazy and want to use windows.

There is a Linux alternative for everything that windows can run, and a lot of things support all platforms.

It is just like OS X, once you get to know it you see how much better it is than windows. I tried setting up an IPsec policy today on some windows machines and it was ridiculous how you set that up. In unix you just modify one config file and you're done with it.

Agreed

For some reason Win 2000 is running more smoothly on my old machine than what DSL or Puppy would run.
