SATA is better then IDE/PATA, the interface is much faster, smaller cables, etc. The reason IDE is more expensive for you is probably because IDE is being phased out and quantities are more limited.

Depends on the model, generally speaking the Intel's perform better however the Athlon X2's are great for their price.How about this one:
Intel Dual Core
or
AMD Anthlon X2
Is there a difference? One brand better then the other?
