Physical Memory Dump/Blue Screen, minor issue

Alright, I apologize if this is the wrong section, but I'm having a minor difficulty with an error. This has happened a total of 3 times, and is reproducible: my computer pauses for a moment, and for less than a second displays a blue screen, upon which I only have time to read "Physical Memory Dump." It then restarts and freezes at the MoBo splash screen. I can press the restart button, and it will still freeze at the splash screen. Only when I hold the power button down, shut the computer off, and leave it off for 3-4 seconds does it start properly. I have the latest drivers and all that jazz, and when I restart the computer the bios beeps (single short) indicate all the hardware is working properly. The error can be reproduced by trying to unzip a .7z file using 7Zip. Any help would be appreciated and, God-Speed, computer forum geniuses.

Any .7z file?

There should be a cryptic message that starts "STOP: ..."

Can you take a picture or write that message down?

are you unzipping a lot of files in that zip file?
try using winrar to unzip it. and if it bluescreens then i'd assume bad ram. use memtest to test your ram. then isolate the bad ram

I haven't tried any other .7z file, and the message flashes for less than a second, so I don't have time to read any of it, unfortunately.

I'm not sure how many files it is, but it is over 2Gbs. WinRAR, to my knowledge, can't be used for .7z files. How to I get memtest to run if I download the "bootable binary" one. It gives me a .bin file when I extract it.

WinRAR said the file is either corrupted or an unknown format. I had to use "Open With" and select WinRAR to do it. Alright, I'll burn the image.

as you can see it supports a bunch of stuff. usually upon installation winrar will take over de-compressing almost everything. i don't know why yours doesn't. perhaps go into options to enable them.

does turning off the antivirus while unzipping help?

Hmm. It says under options that WinRAR is associated with 7-Zip. I don't know, it's odd, I've decided to get rid of the file in need of de-compression all together. I have discovered another possible source of this error; System Mechanic's comprehensive scan of my HDD's functions indicates that "Reallocate Sectors Count" has a status of "FAILURE." It also states that my drive is "50% fragmented", odd, given that this HDD is a month old. I should probably fear the worst, eh?

i'm pretty sure the fragmentation of the hdd doesn't contribute to your problem but it's always good to defrag. i'm still sticking to the ram issue assuming winrar created the same problem
