Inexpensive Laptop - Budget 500-- TOPS

I lucked out and found my Acer on clearance from newegg for only $399

I recently bought a HP nc6000 from www.unbeatenvalues.com for $125. It will ship the first of august so I should see it soon. If it works well I might buy more from them.

Wonder how you (you who started the thread, don't recall name) purchased a laptop for under $500. Those 7-inch laptops that Asus put out started at $299 and now they jumped to $399. I don't think they are worth the price as they have very small screen, a tiny hard drive (solid state is good though) and no optical drive. So the question is, or rather the answer, is that laptops, unless you are looking for those Asus ultraportables, cannot be had for under $500 unless you buy refurbished (not recommended) as in this case. Or unless you buy those Vostro laptops.

Buying a Dell Inspiron was my last time EVER buying a notebook computer. They are overpriced junk, and it's not just Dell. I may look funny toting my whole desktop PC - tower, peripherals, LCD screen - the whole enchilada - up to my room when I have my next convention but I will never possess a laptop again.

Come to my store in Connecticut and get a nice Dell Latitude D600 for $400. :)
