Reformatting My Laptop

I got a laptop a year and a half ago, not quite sure the model but it's a Toshiba Qosmio smthing 17 inch screen (sorry if that's irrelevant). Over the time I've had it I've gotten some normal uhh slowing let's call it as the computer is getting older.

But over the past few months I've gotten a lot of viruses I can't seem to get rid of, and it's extremely slow now. Before I didn't think much of it, but now if I have more than 2 programs open it gets so much slower, when my battery is at 20% it just shuts down (not hibernating or stand by or anything, like the hard shutdown when you hold the powerbutton), sometimes usb devices just stop working, if I put a password on my user account (so that you have type something in at the start up screen) then my laptop restarts at the start screen if I don't log in fast enough, the black command box opens up whenever I boot up my computer and it runs some weird stuff and then says something like "value kill not found...run kill.exe...y/n" and alot of my space is just disappearing. My C drive can hold 56 gigs of stuff and my D drive can hold 56 gigs aswell, and now I have 8 gigs left on my C drive and 15 on my D drive. I checked all my files and added it up, and I should have ALOT more space.

I was just wondering if I uhh reformated my laptop, like re-install the OS. It would let me start again, so to speak. (I never had system restore on when my laptop was uhh healthy so I can't really use it.) I've also tried to find and get rid of the viruses many times but it doesn't work. Oh I forgot to say that my up arrow key doesn't work.

It most certainly WOULD let you start again :)
you will need

  • your OS setup disk
  • your Product key(usually on bottom of laptop)
  • your drivers for motherboard,webcam,etc
  • Softwares to install
  • and mains connection(it WILL deplete your battery before install is complete!!)
  • plus it helps to have internet connection(obviously you have) to activate windows and download updates etc

the arrow key MAY cause a problem when selecting a partition as you said you have two partitions which you will need to at least reformat one(can't remember if it scrolls back through the list or not in setup);)
