Okay..
I'm a total noob at this computer thing..

I just got my first computer made.

I started it up last night and all the fans were working.
I was in the BIOS and this PC Health Status thing told me my CPU was
at 70*C, and like 120*F, then later.. It got super hot.
I wasn't running and programs, I didn't even put an OS in yet.

It went up to 90-100*C and 200*F o.O???

Is it some Temp. Sensor problem?
Or is my setup really bad..

I have:

EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-115DBK - OEM

Please help, I don't want my computer to die or blow up :(

Based on your post, I'd recommend reseating you CPU heatsink. I'd guess that you don't have good contact with the CPU and the chip is overheating QUICK.

Let us know what happens!

Vix

Yes.

Remove the heatsink, clean off thermal paste, reapply thermal paste, and reattach the heatsink. Be sure not to add too much paste!

>.< gahh

Okay..
I'll need to buy some of that goop..
and yes. I was using the gray patch that came with it.

My cousin told me, I need to apply it allll over the surface of the CPU..
Please tell me exactly how to re-do the heatsink+cpu+goop applying thing

Yes.

Remove the heatsink, clean off thermal paste, reapply thermal paste, and reattach the heatsink. Be sure not to add too much paste!

if he was using the standard thermal paste on the heatsink it will be fine!!!

if the heatsink is sitting firmly on the cpu (you cant move it much) it should be fine and you will most likely have a faulty heat sensor on your motherboard!

K.. I had another thought..

If my computer went up to 200* F
>.>
Isn't it suppose to shut off automatically?

My computer was running at 80-100*C
without shutting off o.o

What's going on here ?

There are a few possibilities:

- The temperature readout is wrong, caused either by software or hardware, and everything is operating within the acceptable range. The thermal control circuit is getting the correct, low temperature whereas the readout temperture is getting messed up somewhere.

- The temperature is correct and your thermal management, which should regulate the temperatures either by cycling or shutting off, is either turned off or malfunctioning. Your CPU could be getting damaged.

- The temperature readout is from a faulty thermal diode whereas the actual temperature, output by the digital temperature sensor, is still reading within the limits. However, I don't think this actually applies to you because I don't think the E8000 series uses thermal diodes anymore (older models like the 6000 series did).

Whatever it is you should definitely check that the heatsink is seated correctly and probably reseat it anyway with thermal grease.

those chips are known to have some sort of faulty sensors on them sometimes, i dont think the readings are accurate

are they really? i keep getting high temp readings ive reseated my sink 4 times because if it...using speed fan and biosv to read temps
