Can anyone help

I while ago i got a virus, sorted that out and got rid of it but now when i starts windows, the My Documents folder opens up on start-up

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Try this

Click Start then Run and type msconfig in the box. Click on the "Startup" tab" then look in the startup list and remove the check from the box next to EXPLORER.EXE, "Apply" then "Ok".

Reboot your computer and you may get a Startup box appear. If you do, check the box in the lower left corner of the window and click "Ok".

If the above doesnt work then, do the following:

* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
* Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Wouldn't that keep the taskbar and stuff like that from opening as well? It does when I kill the explorer process.

No it wont!! Explorer.exe should NOT be in your startup but, is a running process when your pc is booted. Explorer.exe in your startup will cause the exact problem that you are having.

Thank you g25racer, it should not be in the Startup. It's obviously starting and pointing to "My Documents"

Exactly No problem

Edit: It is the same thing as going to task manager and clicking file - New Task and typing explorer.exe It will open "My Documents".

Type msconfig in the run box. Is explorer.exe in your start up

Funny, it's not... maybe it has something to do with Vista. What I'm saying though is that when I hit "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" and kill the Explorer.exe process it kills all the explorer windows as well as the taskbar... the taskbar starts up again when I hit "New Task..." and then type "C:\Windows\Explorer.exe"

You're probably right though :P

^^ Duh thats what it is supposed to do. Then follow my other instructions for Hijackthis. Or download and install CCleaner. Then go to tools and click "Startup". Then take a screenshot for us and post it here.

Thanks for clearing that up! I was wondering about that 'cause when I kill explorer it kills my taskbar, hence it seemed logical that if you kept it from starting up the taskbar wouldn't start up.

Right, that's what I thought it was supposed to do, but I was like "why would he be saying that if it would keep the taskbar from starting up" I guess I thought I must of had it wrong or something lol

Like g25racer and myself said, start explorer.exe a second time and "My Documents" will open :)

Ah! In other words he has to fix explorer.exe? lol I'm confused. :P

EDIT: OK, I was just messing around with the Task Manager and finally figured out what you guys are trying to say... you're right... I thought you were saying to keep explorer from starting at all.

No probs, because explorer.exe process has already started, we want to be sure it is not being told to start again leading to "My Documents" opening on startup.

I get days like that as well :P
