4x1gb vs. 2x2gb

Is there a noticeable performance difference between a 4x1gb and 2x2gb setup?
Assuming all timings and sticks are the same, and all channels dual.

2 x 2GB gets my vote, Just easier to manage and i think the computer would like it better without needing to read 4 sticks.

By filling all the RAM slots you could create what is known as a memory hole. I wouldn't worry about it, it's more common on the last-generation of Asus boards with older BIOS. And really if you are processing massive amounts of data like a server would, it would be something to worry about.

2x2GB is just better, maybe you'd like to upgrade later or overclock without so much heat generated in that area.

Very, very little performance difference that is not even noticeable without the use of a good RAM stressing benchmark. Either way, performance will be fine.

What brand are you planning on going with?

Sometimes memory controllers can't handle memory sticks in numbers, even if all the specs were identical more sticks may cause the memory stick to loosen up on timings&clockspeed. I don't know how often something like this, but I think you'd be better off with 2x2 setup.

depends. i have to see how my thread on DDR800 being a Phenom 9850BE bottleneck pans out... if it's no issue, then i'll get another dual channel set of my Mushkin to make 4gbs... if 1066 is necessary then idk for sure.
