I have a compaq presario r3200. It came with 256mb of ram installed, then I was going to upgrade it to 512 a while back, and when I unscrewed the memory cover, I noticed that there was only one slot for memory an it was empty. So I added another 256mb to it and now I want to upgrade to 2 gb. Here is the issue. Where is the original 256? Can I take it out?

thx

But how do I get the 256 out if I can't see it? I don't know where it is!

Is it integrated onto the motherboard?

it can support up to 2 gb ram

I have find any information or specs on it at the moment because I'm on an iPod touch. So I'll post something when I get home.

ooh..Well, it is 12:30 at noght and I think I'm going to go to bed soon. So if you could help me out with my problem, I won't be able to answer right away(not til morning) so, yeah.

Odds are that it is under the keyboard...

My Dell Inspiron is the same way, the keyboard is easy to remove and the RAM is easy to access.

I Googled it and the manual for that model is not found, do you have the user manual that came with it? It should show you how to remove the keyboard and access the RAM slots...

i have all manuels but they are all just on getting started and all. I don't think there is a manuel that tells me anything usefull

Directly in front and below the screen there is the power button, the power button is on a panel that pops off with the prying of a flat object. Removing that panel reveals the screws and keyboard connector, remove the keyboard and the RAM slot should be right there. You then push the clip out of the notch on the RAM and gently pull the RAM out to a 45* angle then pull it out of the slot.

Oh wow... Just wow...

Okay, I guess the memory is base memory. It must be integrated into the motherboard. Your best bet would be to stick a 1GB stick in the slot that is on the bottom. That is terrible and a cheap move on Compaq's part. That's the first I have ever seen this even though I knew it existed.
