Can i just swap processors?

I have 2 laptops one a fujitsu siemens with a 3.2g pentium 4, and the other a HP pavillion with a 3g pentium 4. I have a intermittent fault on the HP where there is no response from what I do on it for a split second every 5/6 seconds. I recently bought a new harddrive but the problem is still there, so could I just swap the processor from the Seimens into the HP to see if its the processor thats at fault? or is there something i would have to do?

Thanks. Dave.

dont put a faster cpu in

laptops are specifically designed for specific heat configurations

if you go putting a faster cpu in, there will be a lot more heat that the alptop was not designed to cope with

200 Mhz is a very big difference, isnt it? :D

Just stripped HP right down to get to the processor and.........its different!

fujitsu has pins where as the hp has small areas on the surface which sit on pins on the system board!, oh well. Better start putting it back toghether :(

Thanks for the help anyway.

If it's the same type of processor then the same cooling should suffice, such as the 3GHz P4 vs 3.2GHz P4.

So are you sure it's a cpu fault in the first place?

Well, I took the removed processor from the Hp to my local dealer for a quote and explained to him what the problem was. He suggested it may be a faulty Ram board, so once i put it all back toghether I put only one board in and it worked fine, so I took that one out and tried it with just the second board, This also worked fine! put both boards in and hey presto! It works fine!! Possible bad connection somewhere??

Still not happy as it would be nice to know where the problem was coming from in the first place.:(
