Laptop Monitor is really dark

hey all, i have a problem, i have a fairly old laptop which I am in the process of upgrading, I recieved 256mb of RAM today which i ordered. I put the RAM in the laptop and turned it on... but i couldnt see anything on the screen.
so I tried taking the RAM out and did every varied thing i could to see if it would work... no luck...
i then put my Linux CD in the drive to see if anything would happen and i can see it very faintly on the screen.
i have plugged it into my TV/2nd monitor for now, which seems to work fine, it displays clearly and windows seems to be picking up the RAM fine.

I have tried looking through the BIOS, used the FN key with the brightness settings and even tried in windows, but have had no luck.

anyone got any ideas why it might be so dark? and is there anyway i could fix it?

thanks

Dave.

I am 99.9% certain that your backlight of the monitor has failed BUD :(

can be repaired if you can find a second hand screen on ebay etc and they can be quite expensive though, but you may get lucky :)

DAMNIT!!!! I cant afford to buy a new screen lol... i could only just afford this new ram lol. argh, spent £55 on this laptop now, just for this to happen, DAMNIT!!! now im annoyed.

thanks anyways.

You may not need a whole LCD, but it probably would be the easiest fix. Normally the inverters give out, or wires begin to short over time.

I have decided not to proceed with this further atm, I am going to send the RAM back and postpone this "project" i currently have about £150 to last till september and im going away twice in that time... so i just cant afford it atm

Thanks for the help anyways guys!
