Hey guys i had a problem installing the driver for my new brother printer. They said to install this http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108167 Well i have Vista and it shows no directions for vista. So i thought hell, i'll follow the XP instructions and see how far i can get. I get to step 3 and cant go any further. Because the screen doesn't match up to the instructions. Here's the screen i get.

that is a TXT file and nothing is there....

Go to the brother site and download the latest drivers.

That still wont work. They said there was a Install shield problem and to go to that site to fix the problem.

huh? i tried to install my drivers for my new printer and it brother said it was a install shield problem and to go to the above link to fix the problem. I went to the link and there is no directions for vista.
That's my problem

i think no one.. but if thats the case i think you should downgrade your system to xp coz the vista version is still on its way to stabilize with the drivers. thats a common problem with the vista os.. does your pc detects the brother printer? then try to install it through its driver support but if theres none then try to go to microsoft and report this bug so that they can fix this problem and someway you can help others when they encounter this kind of problem.

Ok thanks alot. I will have to go back to XP
now what about all the programs on the computer? will they be there once i go back to XP??

Wait, are you serious? Vista is perfectly fine, just be a little patient and someone will come a long that knows exactly what to do. Here's a start, what printer is it exactly?

Edit: Seriously there is in all likelihood no need to downgrade to XP, and yeah, you would lose all the programs unless you have another HDD you get back them up on to.

I sure don't know what to do and would like to use the printer. It's a Brother MFC-240C. I am buying windows XP special edition and CS3 for 30 bucks. So if i dont get help soon, i have no problem switching back to XP.

The exact one in that link above.

Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: BRADDPRT.CheckLocalPort

Setup will now terminate.

Hmm, I googled around for a while and can't find anything. Do you think you could try to completely uninstall the existing drivers, download them from the link I gave you before, and try to reinstall to see if the problem persists?
