Lost all of my files.

Before I start this thread I must warn you that I know very little about computers. Although I use one a lot and have a good understanding of them, I'm not into all the tecnial stuff.

Yesterday (the 8th) I lost all of my files. They were lost from the 'My Documents' folder. It happened because the computer has virus on it so I downloaded an anti virus software of the internet. The rest of my family uses it and logged in ok. When I went to log in all of my settings (eg background) had been set to default and nothing would save (eg word documents). Then I saw that all my files had gone. The rest of my family were ok and have not lost any files

Today (the 9th) I downloaded 'Recuva' to try and get the files back. It found lots of deleted files and when fully restored I found none of my missing files were there.

Is there anything I can do to get them back? Does anybody know any software that can help?

Thanks

:)

Well, a better program is Recover my Files

Go to http://www.cohens-site.tk (my website) > click on Computer News + Helpful Tips > Click on Recover My Files > Download and run it.

It will scans deleted files everything.... you should be able to recover most if not all of your data.

Thanks I'm running it now. What happens when its completed its search? Do I have to create a new hard drive to copy the files onto?

tick the files you want to save and save them onto another drive, can't same them onto the drive you scanning / recovering files from.

The more you use the computer (e.g. running programs and installing), the less likely you are to recover the files. Make sure you have no virus on it first.
