Two dedicated cards will probably outperform the X2, one purpose being that each card would have its own dedicated PCIe X16 slot. This is normally the case, but we should only wait and see if its the same with the 4870X2...
Anyone know when the HD4870 comes out?
and personally im gonna wait for 4850x2 (apparently they are on the way)
this is too expensive and chews too my power. And at a res smaller than 2000s its pointless.
The 4850x2 will be more justified in terms of price/performance.
I think, one 4870 is the way to go

Two 4870's in CF on average perform a tad bit better except when it comes to the crazy high resolutions like 2650x1600 (or w/e that one is). The only reason I can't decide is because if the 4870 X2 arrives at $499, then it would be $60+ cheaper then two 4870's for only 1-3 FPS difference.
Also, with a dual-GPU single card (4870 X2), you have less heat, less power consumption, it plays better with non SLI/CF friendly games, only takes up one slot, and allows for quad CF later down the road.
I wish I knew what the price would be, because you can get two 4870's for $560, so if the 4870 X2 comes out at $499 then I would get the X2, however if it's at $599, dual 4870's here I come!
fade2green needs a boyfriendomega needs a girlfriend. OHH SHOOT! lol just kiddin bro.
just choose one lol both situations include 2 cards in one computer, its not like your games wont run.
