help with cpu selection

hi all

ive been trying to build computer for the last 6 months and am going to finish it next week if all goes well

so cpu i was going a duo 8400 6 months ago but is it still the one to go for?

or quad?????

Q 9400
Q 9550

i have got a
ANTEC 900 CASE
GA-EP35-DS3P MOTHERBOARD
2GB BALLISTIX (X2 1GB STICKS)


LOOKING AT GETTING A
CORSAIR TX-750W POWER SUPPLY?????
HDD WD SCORPIO BLACK 250GB 7200/16MB/SATA2?????

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

IVE NEVER BEEN ONE TO OVERCLOCK
 
its a family computer but i like my games
still looking at a video card not sure which one yet

i would like a good gaming computer
but im not to keen on overclocking
this one will have to last me for the next 3 to 4 years

what is your budget? IMO the whole point of overclocking a computer for daily use is to get performance out of a CPU similar to more expensive CPU's.



IMO the best choice right now on a budget dual-core is the E8500. I think you can find it for around 190 shipped from a reputable business if you look around online.

If you want to go with a quad, then I would suggest the Q9450 (or the Q9550 if you want to spend an extra hundred dollars) for a good value.
