AMD < Intel

In a scale from 1 to 10, the E8400 is 10 and the 4600+ is 2, you do the math ;)

What processor do you have right now?

ramodkk, I think you misunderstood his statement. He HAS a 4600 and wants to know what AMD CPU is on par with the E8400.

Well, the closest one I'd say would be the E6750 or the E7200 :P

On the AMD side however, the closest one would be the X2 6400+

6400+ is much slower than E8400

AMD doesn't really have dual core that match E8400 in performance

Ok thanks thats what I feared, I will have to do a system overhaul in order to not bottleneck my 4870.

Before this thread disappears in the forums, I was wondering how much my 9600gt would bottleneck my CPU, compared to my future 4870.

^ That's where I'm coming from. There's just no competition, BUT the 6000/6400 is the best you can do and would certainly be an upgrade from a 4600+

for $400~ I can cross over to intel. My dad needs a comp and when I cross over ill have enough parts to build him his. In return he'll be overwhelmed with joy that he will have no choice but to buy me the 4870 and everything else :). The plan cannot fail!

what do you do with your computer? that processor is a good processor, but if you're into getting maximum fps out of your gaming then a better processor might be in line.

also, consider a new video card since games are more video card intensive than anything.

What is the closest possible AMD CPU that can compete with this Intel CPU in performance?

Intel E8400:

Heres what I have now and its definetly in need of a replacement.

Much thanks to any comments.
1st of all ive had lots of AMD CPU'S and i own a e8400. i think if you could find a x2 5600+ 2mb L2 think its the windsor version my best performing AMD dualcore to date that would come close to the e8400 in real life (not benchmarking) performance

With the amount you would pay for an Athlon 5600+ Windsor you could get a Phenom Triple-Core processor. The 5600+ Windsor would be a better option though if he only had a Socket AM2 motherboard.
