Hi i heard that turning off virtual memory in windows vista really speeds up the show. I looked around and don't see there to turn it off though. I have windows vista home premium.

You won't receive any performance increase by disabling the pagefile. Here's the steps, if you want to try it out:

Right click Computer -> Click properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced tab -> Advanced tab again -> Click Change -> Uncheck the box -> Select no paging file and click Set.

i read an article in PC magazine a while ago that said they noticed fairly signigicant performance increases from disabling the pagefile, but keep in mind, you better have at least 4 GB of memory if you are going to do this...

oops...I have 2 gigs. guess i will change it back. Whats bothering me about my computer is i think it is lagging somewhere. I try to convert/burn DVD's with nero (or any program for that matter) and by the time it converts it from AVI and then burnt to DVD my computer has overheated and shut down. Also when I watch AVI's on any program I get to watch it for a while than the video stops (audio keeps going) and I have to restart the computer. I know my computer is up to snuff to do those two tasks so it's driving me crazy. im trying to get as much performance out of the thing as possible.
